Ray Hamel is a long time resident of the Durham region and currently lives in Courtice. Since retiring over 10 years ago, Ray has become an avid cyclist.  This past summer (2009) Ray biked from Courtice to Halifax in 14 days.

This June and July, 2010, Ray will touch his hand in the Pacific Ocean and then bike from Vancouver to Courtice – approx. 100km per day, over 40 days. Ray will be challenging himself while also challenging others in the community to help raise funding and awareness for Hearth Place.  

On July 9th and 10th at the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens in Oshawa, the 2nd Annual Oshawa International Festival is taking place with proceeds being donated to Hearth Place.

Get ready to take off with Hearth Place's newest fundraiser, the 5K on the Runway run/walk! On Sunday October 24, 2010, for the first time in the airport's history, participants, ranging from serious runners and recreational walkers to families and school children, will be allowed to use the actual runway as a track for our event. All air traffice will cease from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. while runners, walkers and their supporters are participating in the Hearth Place 5K on the Runway.
